Welcome to the Statutory Inspection of Anglican & Methodist Schools (SIAMS) Section
All schools and academies which are designated as having a religious character are required to have a denominational or Section 48 inspection. For Church of England and Methodist schools, the national framework for this is the Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools (SIAMS).
SIAMS inspections are scheduled separately from the Ofsted cycle and occur every 3 – 5 years, depending on the outcome of the previous inspection.
All schools with a ‘good’ or ‘outstanding’ Section 48 inspection must be scheduled for their next section 48 inspection within 5 school years from end of the school year within which they were last inspected. Schools with a section 48 inspection judgement that was less than ‘good’ may be scheduled for their next section 48 inspection within 3 to 5 years from the end of the school year within which they were last inspected
New schools / academies will have their first inspection between two and three years following the school/ academy being opened. Schools which become academies will follow the 3 – 5 year system for existing schools, based on the outcome of the last S48 inspection of the predecessor school.
