Ripon Cathedral is taking part in the annual Sights, Sounds and Stories of Ripon - next Saturday (March 10) with a host of entertainment and activities on offer.
This is a free family event taking place at venues across the city with Dean John opening the day at 11am at the Workhouse Museum.
Dean John said: "I am thrilled to be opening the Ripon Sights and Sounds festival for the second time, on this occasion at the Ripon Work House Museum. It is wonderful to see organisations planning and working together to show off so many of the gems that we have to be proud of in Ripon. The significant thing about this festival is that it encourages local people and visitors alike to discover something new and enjoyable. Like our partners across Ripon, we at the cathedral have planned a packed day with something for everyone."
There are many attractions in the cathedral from 11am that day. There’ll be a Pop-up Café run by The Walled Garden which has a ‘plot to plate’ ethos using fruit and veg from the garden. They’ll be serving hot drinks and their own apple juice plus sweet treats such as scones with jam made from their own fruit. They’ll also offer light lunches of homemade soup, rolls and savoury pastries with salad.
Also at lunchtime – at around 1.20pm our newly formed Youth Choir will be singing a selection of different kinds of music - some madrigals, an arrangement of a song by Fleet Foxes and For Everyone born which they sang at the installation of Bishop Helen-Ann last month - (pictured above!) The choir is open to new members and rehearses on Monday evening from 4.45pm - 6.15pm - if you are interested in joining please email email@example.com
We are delighted to welcome The Anoka Youth Choir from Minnesota. They will be singing at noon and at 2.45pm at the Workhouse Museum. They will also be singing Evensong that day at 5.30pm.
In addition there will be morris dancers on the forecourt at 1pm; ‘Stories of Ripon;' arts and crafts; a treasure trail and you can meet members of Cathedral Community Connections and find out more about the partners we support.
